LDS Only: If you hope the church isn't true but pray to know if it is will you get an answer?

I hope it's not true because if it is I am going to hell. Thanks. LDS Only: If you hope the church isn't true but pray to know if it is will you get an answer?
Wow- maybe you don't understand the Atonement. Talk to your bishop about applying the atonement to your life. Clearly you've made some mistakes (who hasn't?... besides Jesus).

If you hope the Church isn't true, then Father will probably allow you to feel that way. He has never been exactly into forcing people to do what they don't want to do. He'll entice, encourage, cajole, etc, but He will never force.

In my own answer-seeking prayers, I've found that I have to be in a certain mind-frame before I will get any kind of real answer.

Here's two passages that should help you figure it out...

1) Remember the story of the Brother of Jared and lighting the barges? The brother of Jared asked for the Lord to light the barges, and the Lord's answer is in Ether 2:23-25. The Lord asked him to propose a solution.

2) Matthew 26:39, Mark 14:36, Luke 224:32... what do all these have in common? Humility. Our Savior in essence tells His Father, ';I really don't want to do this, nevertheless, not my will but thine be done.';

Step 1- Seek a solution. Just as the brother of Jared was directed to find a solution, sometimes we need to have a plan of action that the Lord can... ';play Hot/Cold'; with...

Step 2- Humble frame of mind. What we want is secondary to what the Lord would have us do. Sometimes what we want is the same as what He wants, and sometimes it's not. We have to be humble enough to say that no matter what we want, we'll follow God's direction... and really mean it.

There were two times I had a huge answer-seeking prayer where I received a clear answer. One took 3 months for me to get to the right place mentally, the second only took 3 weeks. (Maybe next time it will only take 3 days?)

With the first I was pretty set on a certain course of action. I wasn't sure, and I kept feeling anxious and worried about it. I had a solution (Step 1), but I wasn't humble enough to say, ';Nevertheless, not my will but thine be done,'; (Step 2). Once I finally got there, I feel God lead my thoughts to a place where I could receive a confirmation of what I needed to do. In this case, my planned course of action was NOT where I needed to be.

In the second incident, I was unwilling to do ANYTHING until I knew for certain what I was to do. I had no planned course of action, but I did prefer one option over the other. About two and a half weeks after the issue was presented to me for my decision, I got on my knees and told my Father, ';I'd really like Option A to be where you want me, but if you tell me that Option B is where you want me, that's what I'll do.'; Within 3 days, I had my answer. Again, my thoughts were lead to a place where the HG could confirm what Father wanted me to do. Lucky me, what I wanted to do- Option A- was also what Father wanted me to do!

My suggestion to you is two-fold.

1) Study the atonement- what it is, what it means, and how to apply it.

2) Humble yourself and pray to know what Father wants you to do.

Good luck *hug*LDS Only: If you hope the church isn't true but pray to know if it is will you get an answer?
That was funny, sorry. You hope it's not true?

The Holy Ghost will confirm truths. The church is true... so you do the math. If you have your mind made up that you don't believe it, then you aren't going to get an answer that it is true. God isn't going to just ';tell'; you it's true - if you don't ';want'; it to be. It sounds to me like you already know it is, just don't want to live it. That happens.

Why not pray to know if it is true? Find out. Why would you NOT want it to be true? It's the most wonderful thing in the world!! Yes, it's hard to live sometimes - but aren't the rewards worth the sacrifice?
What is it about the church that you don't want to be true? Why would you feel you are going to hell? This isn't an LDS concept at all.

Maybe start off easy, by praying that certain scriptures are true, or a certain doctrine that you believe in. That will allow you to start to feel the Holy Spirit and to understand HOW you feel it. Each person is a little different in this respect, so it really is a personal thing.
They want you to pray about the BOM try doing some research. They claim all the facts are anti-moron propaganda. Short story a mormon by the name of Ferguson was backed by the church to find the needed evidence to prove the BOM was true after 25 years of looking made this statement Smith and the BOM are frauds. Look it up yourself can't miss it. I may not be LDS but if you do it their way you will never find the truth.

Even their own members have spilled the beans.
How did Joseph Smith get an answer to his prayer, for the first vision?

He prayed to ask what church he should ';join';.

It has been my experience that usually when you aren't humble enough to follow what God wants you to do, He'll just let you go at it yourself anyway.

So if you feel like you'll do what He tells you, even if you don't feel like you'll like it, God will direct you more in your life. Humility is the key.
I'm not sure you know the LDS church very well. I doubt you are a son of perdition and in the LDS church, only sons of perdition go to Outer Darkness or Hell.

You seem to have some things to settle in your life. Figure them out before you make any drastic decisions.
I have the perfect story that will answer your question. Its about a man who did not want the church to be true,so he prayed.

sounds like you may be a little uncomfortable in your own world. Maybe you need to rethink what you are doing in your life in relation with what your belief system is.....

You can always get an answer - but you need to be sure who you're listening to.
you have to have an open mind. WHat you do is youread the book of mormon and sincerely pray to know if it's true. I don't think you are being serious, so i don't think it will work for you.
Try reading the Bible for yourself. It helps because it's words are not twisted into pretzels like alot of corrupt people do when 'interpreting it'.
Shouldn't you be seeking for the truth and them live the truth?

Or do you seek your truth, and deny the real truth?
If the LDS church is true, then there is virtually no way that you are going to hell, so don't worry.
The only true church is described in the Holy Bible, not the Book of Mormon. It is your personal salvation by believing that Christ died on the cross for your sins %26amp; repentance of your sin that brings you a relationship %26amp; eternity in Heaven- not a revelation of blasphemy from Joseph Smith. Following any book other than the Holy Bible for religion is blasphemy to God as God's word is the Holy Bible.
This dialogue demonstrates a major problem with witnessing to those in Mormonism. They think that their feelings are as valid, if not more so, than biblical revelation. In fact, they often subordinate the Bible to their ';testimony';, their feelings. Mormons contend that they received a confirmation from God in their hearts that Mormonism is true. The problem with this is, that their testimony contradicts the Bible. But, when you put feelings above scripture, it doesn't matter.

Jer. 17:9 says, ';The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; Who can understand it?'; Mormonism wants you to trust feelings. But God wants you to trust His word.

Acts 17:11, ';Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily, to see whether these things were so.'; The Word is the Bible. The Mormons have told you it is a feeling. God has told you to compare truth to His word, the Bible. Who are you going to listen to?
