Yes it is. It's popular in many parts of asia. While you may find it offensive, many cultures are equally offended by our consumption of beef, and pork. It's all a matter of perspective.
Rabbits are eaten in many parts of Europe and goats are also popular in many places.
One person's pet is another person's food.I heard some cultures eat dogs, is it true (I'd hope not)?
They eat dogs. BUT a type of dog.

Prehispanic cuisine extolled the virtues of the Mexican Hairless Dog, or itxcuincli. Of course no one eats dogs nowadays.
It is a standing joke in Mexico that tacos sold at several taco stands are actually made with stray dog meat. If this were true, stray dogs would be mighty scarce and it is not so.
In Argentina, a restaurant was closed down because their freezers were full of dead dogs that hadn't been made into empanadas (turnovers) yet. Gross, but I saw this in the news. Of course no one eats dogs in Argentina either.
Yes. China, in fact, is making it unavailable during the olympics next month, so as not to offend western sensibilities.
Other cultures eat differently; that's just the way it is. What we deem taboo here may be a staple in another country. I've eaten horsemeat, for instance, in Italy where it is readily available.
Yes, some cultures do eat dogs....for example, I have heard of dogs being eaten in countries like vietnam and korea. I do understand that it's hard to think of eating your pet, but they do not look at dogs as pets. Rather, to them, dogs are like chickens, cows, pigs, etc. Just another food source. It is not meant to be bad or harmful, it is just another cultural custom. Some countries even eat horse. Please remember, it's important to keep an open mind about cultures.
';I don't think it's right for any culture to eat your pets';
Do people eat dog? Yes. Do people eat their pets? No. It's not like these people are going around eating ';Fido'; or a dog they've kept for years and years as a pet, a pet which they've loved. Hey you eat what you can get. I missed my chance to try some when I was in Vietnam (I'm half Viet... my mom who's full Viet is disgusted by dog eating... depends on who you talk to). They are either caught wild/feral or ';farmed';... you guys don't complain about pig, and people keep pigs as pets (lol Vietnamese pot bellied pigs are cute).
I've heard of dog-eating in China, Korea and Vietnam, but it's not like it's widespread... only in a small number of towns in each country. For the most part it's not an everyday thing.
I'm an adventurous eater and do expect to try some someday ^_~... (I also missed my chance to eat snake in VN... next time... funny because I have a pet snake :D )
Yes it is very true but it is a poor mans meal. The below link shows some interesting information about the consumption of dog meat http://www.aapn.org/fooddogs.html
But keep in mind that a lot of people even in America do not see the point in owning a dog if the dog serves no purpose such as hunting or herding.
yes, the chow was bred to be eaten by people in china. they are supposed to be the tastiest dogs around. i've eaten my pets before. i raised pigs while growing up. we sold most of them to the market, but we kept 4 of them and had them butchered. they tasted damn good.
i guess you got your answer !
i have eaten dog several xs + it is very good
i would not eat my dog however , nor my neighbors
but at a diner - yes i would { just have to make sure it really is dog + not rat or somethiing else } lol
Yes, in certain parts of Eastern Asia, dog meat is part of the diet, in particular Korea, Vietnam, and parts of China.
I don't understand why you think that's so wrong but you have no problems eating a chicken or cow or pig.
Beijing restaurants have been asked to remove dog from their menus so as not to offend western tourists during olympics
Yep... some cultures eat dog.
Also, some cultures eat horse.
meat is meat especially when you're starving or have little natural resources.
Dogs aren't pets in every culture. The American Indians treated honored guests to dog. South Koreans eat them. Gotta get over the fantasy that everyone lives like we do in the US.
yes this is true, examples would be china and Vietnam. In fact China has decided to remove dog meat from their menus during the Olympics.
Yes.
For some people it is just another form of food. For others it's a spiritual thing and believe it gives luck or strength etc.
It is extremely popular in Korea.
They are not pets.
Strays etc
I believe some breeds are bred for the table.
Yes, it is true. The Chinese and other orientals are into eating dogs big time.
Where do you think ';hot dogs'; come from.
Yes it is.
