Hope for the best: you want it to happen;


but prepare of the worst: tell yourself it won't so that you won't be too disappointed if it doesn't happen, or you'll be extra happy when it does.

always be optimistic and hopeful, but don't be surprised if things go bad. Just because you hope for the best doesn't mean that's always how things will turn out.
