True conservatism is the only hope for America?

When I say conservatism I'm speaking of a philosophy true to the founding fathers intents as expressed in the constitution: limited government, and individual rights. Today very few republicans fit this bill (esp. not George Bush and his cronies). The progressive defenders of the bureaucratic state (Liberals) see government as the ultimate savior. It is to act as a benevolent provider meeting all our needs, the supreme embodiment of the collective desire to bring about social, moral, physical and economic justice. Most of you true conservatives know..... that these progressives believe that only mean spirited reactionaries would oppose such a noble end. As true conservatives we defend the old constitutionalism as the best form of Government ever conceived. We see the bureaucratic state as the tyrannical monster that it is, the great destroyer of our inalienable natural rights.True conservatism is the only hope for America?
The only hope for America is in education, both formal and informal. The simple fact that a Trotskyite movement (neo-con) has been able to usurp the title of a legitimate, honorable movement (Modern Conservatism) without the public even being aware that it was happening is horrific.

As demonstrated in many of the answers to this question, the average American, particularly the majority of those who claim to be ';Conservatives'; haven't a clue what true Conservatism is.

Until true Conservatives openly challenge the misuse of their identity, both in the educational system and in the media, Modern Conservatism doesn't stand a chance.

Liberals also have some responsibility. As long as they legitimize the neo-cons by granting them undeserved and unearned legitimacy by referring to them as something they are the direct opposite of, Liberals are actually promoting their agenda.

.True conservatism is the only hope for America?
No, true moderation is the only hope for America. What we need right now are people willing to fight for the middle road; either extreme is going to get us into trouble. For referrence: Extreme liberalism = the USSR and Stalin, extreme conservativism = Hitler and the Nazi party.
Individual rights: I'm all for that, although you and I would presumably disagree as to what that consists of. I'm in favor of a woman's right to an abortion, people's right not to be discriminated against based on sexual orientation (including the rights of gays to adopt and marry), the right of the press to depict the horror of war (as opposed to being presented with a sanitized view by self-appointed guardians of what is or isn't tasteful- the ban on photographing coffins of GI's comes to mind), the right to free speech (including flag-burning, which I personally wouldn't take part in or support, but that's besides the point), the right to censorship-free media in general (why exactly do we even need the FCC, frankly?), etc. If there's one thing you and I probably CAN agree on, I'm guessing, it's that there's no one clear-cut, beyond-debate definition as to what our collective rights consist of or not.
I wish there were more conservatives like you. I am very much a leftie on most issues (a card carrying member of the Green Party) but I have an admiration for people like you who really believe in core values and not some BS neocon talking points.

My hat is off to you and I can only hope that as fellow americans we can work together to restore our nation to a path of common sense and virtue.

There is nothing outdated about family, individual rights, property rights, and limited government.
Conservatism is outdated. Wally and the Beav no longer exist.
Identity is the key to saving this nation not some political movement. Liberals, conservative, independent, greens etc; those are only names created to embody a notion, an ideal, a vision that can easily be presented to the public because like every human on this planet we always seem to have the need to assimilate to a name or a word that can in itself justify and identify our thoughts and desires.

This is America. We are a nation founded by Christians and based our laws on the words of the bible. We cannot and should never deny that fact. We are who we are why should we be ashamed of it? Because honestly that is how everybody acts nowadays.

Why separate religion and government. Society today thinks it was self made. We forget that morals, laws and socializing where brought to us in the form of the commandments. We didn鈥檛 just evolve into this generation of civilized humans who decry beheadings, blind violence and immoral acts. Before God鈥檚 word the three acts noted above were common in society.

To this day we have laws that are copied directly from the laws of God 鈥?how can we deny it?

Thou shall not kill 鈥?we sentence murderers

Thou shall not steal 鈥?we condemn thieves

Thou shall not commit adultery 鈥?adulterers are paying the heavy price today in a divorce court of law for their actions.

All our laws are directly based on the laws of God but today we decide to take the reins and tell the world we do not need Religion? We can live without it? Because we are civilized?

It is a shame that we are trying to cut ourselves off the very core of our identity just so we can please the crowed and gain some votes.

It is a shame that this great nation, so young and so promising has already lost its way, its soul and is about to loose its identity all together.
People who think like you are the problem... conservatism is your religion, whether you believe it or not. People like you have more faith in their party or whatever label you put on yourselves. Than they do God himself.

Remember... put your faith in God not men!
The two Bushes and Reagan ruined ';true conservatism';. They have all been for big government, big deficit spending and have become consistantly more intrusive in people's lives. True Conservatism died while everyone idolized the new Republican Party, which looks nothing like the old one. Republicans have been fooled. And liberals do not look to government for all our needs-don't believe everything that you've been told-that's where the party went wrong. Constitutionalists and Libertarians have more in common with Democrats than this new brand of Republican.

A 2006 report by Cato鈥檚 director of budget studies Stephen Slivinski highlights the truth about GOP efforts .

President Bush has presided over the largest overall increase in inflation-adjusted federal spending since Lyndon B. Johnson. Even after excluding spending on defense and homeland security, Bush is still the biggest-spending president in 30 years. His 2006 budget doesn鈥檛 cut enough spending to change his place in history, either.

Total government spending grew by 33 percent during Bush鈥檚 first term. The federal budget as a share of the economy grew from 18.5 percent of GDP on Clinton鈥檚 last day in office to 20.3 percent by the end of Bush鈥檚 first term.

The Republican Congress has enthusiastically assisted the budget bloat. Inflation-adjusted spending on the combined budgets of the 101 largest programs they vowed to eliminate in 1995 has grown by 27 percent.

This spending is all the more remarkable given that Republicans control all three branches of government. We are seeing Republican conservative governance exactly how it is supposed to work.
I think you should look up the term ';conservatism';....you are true that there are few true Republicans those that want to carry more power to the states. Please remember the first Republicans were considered liberals at the time.
I more or less agree. But you do realize that if you follow conservatism to that degree, that gay marriage is allowed. So is abortion. And this war is over because the vast majority of America no longer supports this war (over 70% are now against it), and if the government can't do anything about it (being that it is very limited), there is no one really there to fight this war.

If the government can't force the issue, then the states choose on the gay marriage and abortion debates. And it has been shown that at least a quarter would go with gay marriage. Far less would go with abortion, but it would at least be accepted in nearly every state if it were a case of rape or incest (again the vast majority of Americans want that).

Everything considered both liberal and conservative will flare up as each side sees the possibility of getting their side in each state as opposed to a federal level (which would get everyone at once). So instead of one big fight in Congress you would get 50 little fights in each state. And with the government rather limited in its ability to deal with it, you will see much more violence flare up also.

We would also lose our superiority (at least military superiority, we have yet to attain economic or sociological superiority over anyone else) in the world. We would have militias for every state rather than one large army (we might have a federal one, but not to the size it is now). And if this state supports a war but that state does not (and every state chooses), many will choose not to fight and we lose wars all the time.

You must remember at the time the Founding Fathers came up with this idea of limited government (federally speaking), they wanted to stay out of the affairs of the rest of the world. In fact, almost the very first rule they said was let Europe handle Europe, we will handle our own situations. So who needed a federal government with strong power, and to allow a government with that kind of power could eventually lead to a dictatorship.

But now we do need a stronger central federal government if only to maintain our power. But I agree we cannot let them have too much power, much of it must be kept to the states. This is our best chance to avoid dictatorship while still maintaining military superiority and economic viability.
You're trying to redefine the framers as conservatives? So you have to be a conservative to be a true American. Nice try. Your movement will be severely wounded for years to come by Bush. No amount of preaching about ideological purity will fix that. Bush is the very epitome of conservatism.
I agree the system is flawed, but unfortunately it's what we have. I also disagree that the vast majority of liberals believe government is the be and do all for the ills of society. If you think that you haven't looked at the liberal philosophy very hard.
Neo-cons are taking America straight to hell. I suppose you are right there, sticking to the constitution and letting everyone have their freedoms and rights is essential for the USA.
I am a republican and I do not think true conservatism is the only hope for America. Like time moves on, so must our government. If we sat true to the laws of old here in New Jersey you would still need a lantern held 4 feet in front of your vehicle while traveling.

The truth is there is no one hope for America. There are a few things we can probably do to put our country in a better direction. First off, do not vote for Hilary Clinton. As much as I would like to see McCain or Guiliani representing our country the truth of the matter is Obama is the only (multi-cultural) choice that will have a chance of fixing the image GW has created for us. Second, we need to truly separate church and state (something we have seen painfully put together in the past 7 years). While it may be the bane of our existence across seas, it is the only way we will continue to thrive as a nation.

My third is one few are probably aware of, and if they are it is very, very touchy subject. Globalization must continue, however, the benefits of this program must be made apparent. And while we cannot enforce countries and what they give back to their people through this process, we can sure stress the importance of it for both economies (both being theirs and ours).

THose are my top three right now. I can go on for another hour if I'd really like but i'll save you the pain...
You mean MORE hate and theocray? HELL NO
